Rounding Up 2020: 5 Things You Need To Do
How you can enjoy a better 2021

In less than 3 days, we will be leaving this year behind and entering a new one, rounding up 2020 to make sure that you are well-positioned to enjoy all that this year has to offer, there are certain things you must do.
Honestly, I’m tired of people saying things like “This year is my year” “I’m definitely starting my business this year” or “I’m going to finally charge what I’m worth this year” and so many things like that, but yet fail to work towards that goal.
It’s like they are just saying it for the atmosphere to receive. No strategies, no action plan, nothing. Maybe you started with a lot of grit this year, and you planned to achieve heaven and earth, but in early February, the fire went out. Then you need to learn from those mistakes and get ready to smash some goals in the coming year.
I believe that a good action plan, SMART goals and great strategies are what will ensure that the fire doesn’t go out after a few weeks. These action plans and strategies must be put in place to ensure that the fire you had at the beginning of the year doesn’t go out. If you keep doing it the same way you’ve been doing it in the past, trust me, you won’t see any results.
So understand that saying is not enough, setting goals and creating action plans that will help you achieve those goals is what you need to do if you want to enjoy a great year in your business.
Before we get into it, I want you to read this post on 8 branding myths that may still hold you back in 2020.
Now let’s get right into it.
1. Review Your Activities
Hopefully, at the end of the previous year, you wrote down certain goals that you planned to accomplish this year. I want you to look at those goals and see how many of them you couldn’t carry through this year. Depending on the situation of things, start setting your goals for the new year from there.
In 2018, I remember writing down 15 things I wanted to accomplish before the end of the year. By December when I went through it, I had only done 5 things out of the 15. I simply shifted it to 2019. Reviewing the goals at the end of that year made me remember some of the things I did and didn’t achieve.
So it’s vital that you go back and review the year. In most goal-setting practices, you review your past goals and check for what you did or didn’t achieve. So think back and figure out the forces that helped you accomplish those ones and the situations that caused you not to achieve the others.
One thing I’d also like to chip in this; figure out the decisions you made this year that greatly influenced your life and your business. Reviewing also helps you to find out how far you have gone in your long-term plan for your career or your business.
2 Measure Your Results
I mentioned earlier that you cannot keep doing the same things every time and expect different results. How you would know that the results you are getting is the same as the results you got last year if you don’t measure? You would be stagnant and not even know it.
I used to run away from measuring my activities online because I felt that I wasn’t doing enough yet until I started using Google Analytics. Now I get accurate information on how my posts are doing, what pages are not working well, which content people love most and so on.
Analytics can help you figure out the content and the content type that your audience love most so that you can focus on that content. That is, you will be able to focus your effort on what works most for your audience or your customers.
3. Plan For The New Year
You have got to plan for the new year. If you don’t have a plan, you will practice ‘anything goes’ and that’s terrible for your brand. Your plans are what will determine every step you take in the business.
Look at every aspect of your business and come up with a plan that is pursuant to your goals for that business. For instance, if one of your goals is to build a follower count of 1500 on Instagram, you would need to come up with a plan to post content consistently and engage with your audience.
If your goal is to start selling 1000 units of mobile phones in the first quarter, then you’ll need to come up with a plan to prospect to more buyers. A plan is a step you take to accomplish a certain goal.
4. Set One New Year’s Resolution
New year resolutions are not what they used to be anymore because, let’s face it, who still remembers their resolutions after the first 2 months? We have taken it for granted and the word has become a cliché.
But, as a small business owner looking to build a profitable business brand online, you can’t afford to join the bandwagon. YOU need a new year resolution and I’ll explain to you how you should do it.
Now see, the problem with our new year resolutions is that we create a lot of them. We want to eat healthily and exercise daily, we also want to start making new friends, and the same we want to start saving more than 10% of our income as it comes and we also want to read more books in the new year.
You’ll probably forget 90% of that before the end of the first month because it’s too much. The easiest way to set a new year’s resolution is to set just one new year’s resolution. Choose one thing that will move you closer to the future that you desire for your business, then work devote your entire year towards achieving it.
5. Look Out For New Opportunities
We have all lost so much this year including a lot of money and time. One thing we have also lost is opportunities. I mean I feel as if the year was a total waste. I had a lot planned out for the year, including looking for new opportunities to grow my career. But the year had other plans.
So lookout for new opportunities that you can leverage on to grow your brand better in the coming year. Opportunities abound everywhere, financial opportunities, collaboration opportunities or opportunities to expand.
Again, all these fall back on the goals you have set for your business at the beginning of the new year. That is why this rounding up process is important at this time of the year.
Conclusion
Rounding up 2020, look out for what you will be doing differently in the new year that will cause an exponential growth for your business.
If you think you can’t do it alone, then join communities of people who are on the same path as you. This new year may be tough or not, no one is sure, but if you need me to reach out to you on a weekly basis, you can say so here.
